When it comes to crafting your resume, including your educational background can give you an advantage, especially if you have no work experience.
Listing relevant educational experiences can prove to employers that you have the necessary qualifications to excel in the role you are applying for.
Before you begin, think about what is relevant to your career goal. For example, if you are applying for a job in the healthcare field, you should mention healthcare-related subjects like physiology and pharmacology.
In turn, you should highlight your education in subjects like finance, accounting, and economics if you are vying for a role in the finance field. Additionally, if you’ve achieved a high GPA, it’s worth listing this information on your resume too (even though not always necessary!)
When listing your education on your resume, format it in a way that is easy for employers to read and understand. So start with the most recent education and work backwards.
In general, you should include…
- The name of the institution
- The degree or certification earned
- The field of study
- The dates of attendance.
Example:
- 3.94 GPA in Bachelor of Computer Science, XYZ University, 2016 – 2020
- Certified Nursing Assistant, ABC Healthcare Institute, 2014 – 2016
- Diploma in Business Management, XYZ College University, 2012 – 2014
All in all, your educational experience and achievements help demonstrate the foundation of knowledge and skills you plan to develop professionally. This is especially important for entry-level positions, where employers are evaluating candidates’ potential for growth.
